Start and finish in Marrakech. Two nights at the Toubkal refuge (3,207 m) for optimal acclimatization before the 4,167 m summit, the highest point in North Africa.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 15 to 6 h walking+1 450 m

Marrakech → Imlil → Toubkal Refuge

07:30 meet your driver in Marrakech. 09:00 arrive in Imlil (1,740 m), meet your guide and muleteer. 09:30 start trekking through the Aït Mizane valley to Aremd (≈2,000 m), then Sidi Chamharouch (≈2,300 m). 13:00 lunch at a local guesthouse (Moroccan salad, tagine, bread, fruit, mint tea). 16:30–17:00 arrive at the refuge (3,207 m), dinner at 19:00 and overnight.

Day 26 to 7 h walking+960 m / -960 m

Refuge → Toubkal summit (4,167 m) → Refuge

04:30 wake-up and breakfast. 05:00 start the summit climb with your guide. 08:30–09:00 Toubkal summit (4,167 m), photos and panorama. 09:30 descent, back at the refuge around 11:30. Lunch at 12:00, free afternoon to rest. Dinner at 19:00 and second night at the refuge.

Day 34 to 5 h descent-1 450 m

Refuge → Imlil → Marrakech

07:30 breakfast at the refuge. 08:30 descend through the Aït Mizane valley: Sidi Chamharouch (10:30), Aremd (12:00). Lunch in Imlil at 13:00, depart at 14:00 by private transfer, arriving in Marrakech between 15:30 and 16:30 depending on traffic.

Good to know

  • Less fatigue: attempting the summit from Imlil means redoing the 10 km climb on summit day — 10 to 12 hours of walking.
  • Lower altitude-sickness risk: sleeping above 3,100 m lets the body adapt to the thinner air.
